Suspects in custody after armed robbery at Quick takeaway, Avignon
Six suspects remain in police custody this weekend following an armed robbery of the Quick takeaway at the Cap Sud commercial centre in Avignon. Businesses in Avignon and the surounding area have suffered a spate of armed robberies in recent weeks.
The latest, at Quick, took place at ten o’clock on Thursday night, 8th December 2011. Six armed and masked robbers entered and stole 1300 euros.
Local police from the PS brigade (police secours or ‘police assistance’) and Bac brigade (brigade anticriminalité) arrived promptly. Within minutes they stopped a Fiat, close to Quick, and arrested the six young men who were inside – counting money.
The arrests may lead to prosecutions for other crimes in the recent spate of robberies. The Fiat turned out to be a stolen vehicle of the same type reported by witnesses as used in attempted armed robberies on the 24th of November. On that date, a tobacconist’s, Le Castellas, in Rochefort-du-Gard and a petrol station, La Durance, in Avignon were attacked. Another possible connection is that Quick in Avignon’s commercial zone Courtine was robbed on the 27th Novembre.
Police have begun collecting evidence in the latest robbery and witnesses – staff at Quick- will be asked if they are able to identity any of the suspects in any way
